Enhancement of Teaching English in Elementary Classes

As per systematic approach to nurture innovative activities for academic excellence, Sarla Chopra DAV Public School, NOIDA organized and conducted a two days workshop on –  ‘ Enhancement of Teaching English in elementary classes’ from  17th to 18th March, 2015. The participants comprised of teachers from various DAV schools fraternity, and the resource persons were a strong team of well qualified experienced and highly talented  teachers from the Host school. Dr. R.K. Sethi (Manager of the school) graced the occasion with his presence, and motivated everyone all  along. 
The workshop was divided into 7 sessions. First, was the Introductory Session by the Principal of the school, 
Mrs. I.P. Bhatia.  She welcomed one and all whole heartedly and discussed the reason behind such  workshops, the Motto of this workshop and in a nut shell also gave a preview of what all this workshop was to have in store for the participants. She very aptly termed everyone as a ‘ co- learner’ and emphasized on the need to unlearn, learn & re-learn to constantly better oneself. 

   This was followed by 4 sessions on the enhancement of  English Language Skills amongst the learners of classes III to VIII.

       Session1-  Listening  Skill    
       Session2-  Speaking  Skill    
       Session3-  Reading    Skill    
       Session4-  Writing     Skill   

Each of these 4 sessions categorically displayed an in-depth research on one particular skill. The resource persons vividly discussed the need and importance of these language skills , the problems that teachers face while imparting these in their classroom teaching, and the possible solutions to it with the help of numerous individual, pair and group activities. ( Some of which they did with the participants as well that was thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by all.) 

Next up, was brilliant presentation by the Music, Dance and Art Department of the host school that reflected upon the role of visual & performing Arts in the Teaching of English.In the session, all the participants were divided into groups and were asked to present one lesson plan group wise by incorporating music, dance, drama, art and technology. The response to this activity was superlative and every participant came out with absolutely jaw –dropping presentations. All were deeply involved and enthusiastic during the course of this session. 

Last was the Valedictory Session, wherein everyone was given due chance to share their views and feedback about this workshop. Finally, Mrs. I.P. Bhatia concluded this 2 – days workshop with her vote of thanks to the esteemed Chief  Guest Dr. R.K. Sethi and all the resource persons and participants who made this workshop such a great success.
